What is Trademark?

The Intellectual Property Department (HKIPD) is the authority of trademark registration in Hong Kong.

Once the trademark owners have registered their trademarks, the owners are granted an exclusive right to use the registered mark on their goods or the services and in turn can take legal action to stop anyone from using his registered sign without his consent.

Trademarks Protection in HK

The Hong Kong trademark registration system provides legal protection within Hong Kong territory. If your registered trademarks are used by any people for trade or business in Hong Kong in relation to the same or similar goods or services without your consent, you can take legal action against them for infringement of your mark in Hong Kong.

Classification of Trademark in HK

For every application of trademark registration in Hong Kong, you must decide the class(es) of your trademark to register with and submit a list of all goods and services which are classified under the Nice Classification by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Registration Procedures

Our clients need to get the proposed trademark of your business and its information ready:

• The applicant’s name and address in English/ Chinese
• Specification of goods/services (in English and/or Chinese)
• Specimen of the trademark (digital copy in JPG format is preferred)

Around 6 months (when no objection is taken by any parties)

Validity Period

Each registration is valid for 10 years.

Renewal Period

Renewal for another 10-year will be open for application 6 months in prior to the end-date of a registration. We will send reminder to the client for notification in advance.
